77 go missing from Ropar in 8 months, 33 traced

As many as 77 persons went missing in the first eight months of this year, but police here having traced only 33, with no clues about the other 44 cases.

ROPAR: As many as 77 persons went missing in the first eight months of this year, but police here having traced only 33, with no clues about the other 44 cases.
Of the missing persons this year, 15 are from Ropar, three from Nangal, seven from Anandpur Sahib and three from Nurpur Bedi. Similarly from rural areas, there are six from Ropar (rural) and three from Bhagwantpura.
While there are some cases pending for over ten years in the district, children and young people dominate the missing list.

Tarclochan Singh and Gurbachan singh, both residents of Kotla Nihang village, have been missing for the last ten years, with police having no clue about their whereabouts. Though police registered cases under appropriate sections, progress or recovery after that is almost nil, sources said.
Ropar police chief Jitender Singh Aulakh said that in many cases, persons who went missing returned after some time. He added that police are always making efforts to trace out the missing persons and are also in touch with other police station across Punjab from where they are getting assistance.
